Archive 1999 – Pierre J – 5 Years In The Mix

After 5 years of work for all possible record companies and over 150 released productions, songs, remixes and mixes, this disc came to sum it up. Here’s the most you need to know about what I’ve been involved in during these years. Of course not everything but a lot. Many of the songs had topped the Swedish Dance Chart and I am delighted to look back on these years of such an intense and fun jobs.

Archive 1999 – Hitmix May 1999

After playing at Trädgår’n for a whole year, and doing several jobs a week throughout the period, Trädgår’n thought that they would manage to take care of the DJ-bookings themselves.Just after I finished, I thought I could record two CDs with songs that rolled a lot during the spring. This is definitely not the World Cup in mix, but very simple live-mixed at home with a denon CD-player and a mixer without filter. As for Trädgår’n, it became a break for almost 2 years, before I returned as a DJ-booker, when they realized that it became unsustainable to have no one who ruled a music profile.

Archive 1999 – A*Teens-Medley

A*Teens was initially called Abba*Teens but was forced to change due to copyrights. The music was Abba covers in new euro-inspired versions. Although the whole idea of this music felt a little uncomfortable at first, it became a huge success. In addition to medley, I also made 2 remixes for the project.

Tommy and I created this song quite flatlessly, but I thought it was pretty good, so it ended up on the upcoming collection “Pierre J – 5 Years In The Mix”, in addition to joining a promo-CD “Big Bang” in an edited version. This is the first time you can hear the song in its entirety and as a bonus, the edited version is included.

I also played as a DJ on boat-event Big Bang, in good company.

Archive 1999 – Bedroom Mix

During all years I’ve baptized all the mixes I made and this was called the Bedroom Mix. Partly because it is made at home and is completely live-recorded, but also to reduce expectations. I have never spread this mix and never really intended to spread either. I gathered together a couple of songs, mixed them together without any planning in an hour on a denon player and a DJ-mixer without filters.

My record number 145 in order was this single. This follow-up single was done together with Christian who was one of the 3 lucky winners from the Remix-competition that I wrote about here. It followed the same style as the previous single and also contained this little piece of Tommy’s voice from the last recording.

Archive 1998 – 39 hits from 1998

A DJ mate Jacob, who worked for me at Trädgår’n, was after a yearmix with all the hits from 1998 to be played on New Year’s Eve. I was not particularly keen to spend several weeks doing one, but I could certainly help Jacob to do something. I ended up mixing it, using some parts of the summer’s P3 program and adding a bit of new mixes, so it would cover most of what was hits in 1998. It’s not the best medley in the world, but it still sums up 1998 on one good way.

Archive 1998 – DJ at Trädgår’n

The restaurant “Trädgår’n” in Gothenburg burned to the ground and a new building was erected in 1998. The premiere May 23, showed a lavish facility that could hold around 1500 guests at once, unique of its kind in Sweden, with sound, light and laser. Pierre J was asked about a DJ residency, manage DJ-bookings, music profiling and recieved a contract for 3 months, but it became a partnership that lasted 14 years. The Trädgår’n Nightclub was open 22.00-05.00, 4-7 days a week the first year, and age to get in was 25 years for females and 27 years for males.

The music profile in general was based on commercial house and techno music. I recorded some clips with my videocamera as well as a full audio recording on the DAT.
